Theodore [George] Pratt (AKA Timothy Brace)

wurde am 26. April 1901 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA und verstarb am 15. Dezember 1969 im Alter von 68 Jahren in Delray Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA.

1933 veröffentlichte er mit 'Spring from Downward' sein erstes Buch, dem sich in den folgenden Jahren zahlreiche weitere Titel anschlossen. Vier frühe Romane erschienen unter dem Pseudonym Timothy Brace, hierbei handelt es sich um Kriminalromane. Vorherrschender Handlungsort der meisten Bücher Pratts ist Florida. Er läßt seine Bücher gerne vor einem historischen Hintergrund spielen, allerdings finden sich auch vorwiegend humoristische oder erotische Romane. Neben Hardcoververöffentlichungen gab es zahlreiche Taschenbuchausgaben bei bekannten amerikanischen Taschenbuchverlagen.

In deutscher Übersetzung erschien nur 'Escape to Eden' als 'Flucht ins Paradies'.

In 1933 he published 'Spring from Downward', his first book, which was followed by numerous other titles in the years that followed. Four early crime novels appeared under the pseudonym Timothy Brace. The predominant setting of most of Pratt's books is Florida. He likes to set his books against a historical background, but there are also humorous or erotic novels. In addition to hardcover publications, there have been numerous paperback editions by well-known American paperback publishers.

Only 'Escape to Eden' was published in German translation as 'Flucht ins Paradies'.

Fünf Veröffentlichungen Pratts wurden verfilmt: Five of Pratt's publications have been made into films:

'Juke Girl' (1942) beruht auf dem Artikel "Land of the Look", den Pratt für die "Saturday Evening Post" (26. April 1941) geschrieben hatte. Unter der Regie von Curtis Bernhardt spielten Ann Sheridan und Ronald Reagan.

Der 1943 erschiene Roman 'Mr. Winkle Goes To War' wurde 1944 unter gleichem Titel von Alfred E. Green mit Edward G. Robinson und Ruth Warrick verfilmt.

Bis 1951 mußten die Filmliebhaber auf eine kinematographische Umsetzung des ebenfalls 1943 veröffentlichten Romans 'The Barefoot Mailman' warten. Robert Cummings war in der Titelrolle zu sehen, Earl McEvoy führte Regie.

Film lovers had to wait until 1951 for a cinematographic adaptation of the novel 'The Barefoot Mailman', also published in 1943. Robert Cummings played the title role and Earl McEvoy directed.

1964 kam der Film 'The Incredible Mr. Limpet' in die Kinos. Vorlage war der 1942 veröffentlichte Roman 'Mr. Limpet'. Don Knotts, Carole Cook und Jack Weston übernahmen die Hauptrollen. Regie führte Arthur Lubin.
